Lots of veggies, fruit, almond milk, whole wheat bread, Fage, Trader Joe's dippin goodies (horseradish hummus is a longtime favorite, and I just tried this spinach & kale greek yogurt dip), cottage cheese, light sour cream, and lots of Vitamin Water; also picked up chicken breast & ground turkeyIt always helps to start with a stocked fridge, right? We made lunches for work this week and ate at home instead of eating out. We've been trying to make dinners that are healthy but still quick during the week so we have more time to get other things done. So far this week we had Trader Joe's chili lime chicken burgers (really good), Trader "Giotto's" spinach feta pizza (okay, not amazing), and last night we made some ground turkey chili in the crock pot (so easy, and perfect for a rainy football-watching night).
Chili!
I'm so glad it's starting to get cool out because that means we can start using the crock pot a few times a week. It's such a time-saver! In case you're a crock-pot fan too (I know some of you are since you made awesome suggestions for easy dinners when I asked for help a few weeks ago), I found some great healthy recipes here, and here are some tips for freezing meals ahead that you can throw in the crock pot any day of the week - even easier!
As for working out, it's been okay but not great. I only made time to do one strength training workout, so I'm still working on being more consistent with that. I did have one really great run earlier this week, during which I tested out my new kicks (insanely bright orange Nike Lunarglide+ 3) and a new pair of Lululemon running capris I picked up in New York, both of which I ended up loving. The half marathon is coming up in a few weeks, so the hub and I are planning on a long 10-mile run this weekend and at least one other active thing.
Neon! I embrace it in workout gear despite not being on board with the general trend ;)
Speaking of Lululemon... I've gotten a little bit addicted. The capris I bought in NYC were the Fast and Free Crop, and they turned out to be such a gateway drug. I ended up going back the next day and getting two Venus tank tops (both in the sale section) and the gloves, and then since I've been home, I bought the Sun Sprinter crops since they were also on sale.
Top left: Venus Tank in black and pink/navy pattern (no longer available)
Bottom left: Brisk Run Gloves
Bottom middle: Sun Sprinter Crop (I got all black, no longer available)
Right: Fast and Free Crop (mine are black/light blue, no longer available)
This stuff is expensive, but I have to say that I really like it. When I ran in the capris, they literally didn't move the entire time, which is so impressive compared to most of my other running gear! It's always fun to get new apparel to inspire you to work out, isn't it? I'm trying to hold back from buying anything else at the moment, but I'm lusting after a pair of these long pants for chilly fall and winter runs.
How has your weekly fitness life been going? Are you getting any cooler weather for outdoor workouts and warm comfort foods for dinner? And what's your favorite type of workout wear - are you partial to any brands or styles, or do you just wear whatever?

wow you are a machine! i've heard that Vitamin Water is actually not that great for you... is that just a rumor?
ReplyDeleteHmm, I've never heard that about Vitamin Water Zero. I know the regular ones are pretty high in calories and sugar, especially if you drink the whole bottle, but the Zero version doesn't have anything really in it (no sugar, no calories, etc.) so I'm not sure what would be bad about it?
DeleteJogged for the first time this season last night in long sleeves!! LOVE Fall and this weather, it's actually cold here in KC today and this weekend...like in the 30s and 40s! I'm OK with that :)
ReplyDeleteI jogged 3 times this week which I'm proud of since I went through some hard stuff on Sunday...break-ups suck, but jogging helps the mind and body! :)
What do you eat with the spinach yogurt dip?? I was thinking whole wheat peta bread or pretzels?
Awesome, nice work Tracy! I love the cooler fall weather too, although it's cooled down a little TOO fast around here for me - we're in the 30s and 40s too and we even have a frost warning right now! I would have liked a few weeks of 50s and 60s! :)
DeleteOh no, I'm so sorry about your break-up! That does totally suck :( But you're absolutely right that having something else to focus on like running really helps. I hope you're healing and taking time for yourself :(
Yes, pita bread and pretzels would definitely be really good with the spinach dip! It basically tastes like spinach artichoke dip, so anything you'd eat that on is a go! We've been eating it with carrots, cucumbers, and triscuits :) It's pretty low calories too, so that's always a plus (30 cals for 2 Tbsp!)
OF COURSE veggies would be great with that dip!! I always have carbs on the mind, lol! I'm going out to get some today!
DeleteHahaha, veggies are usually last on my list too! ;)
Deleteyou are awesome!!!!!! wish i could have some of your willpower! xO!

Aw, thanks Sooae! :)
DeleteGosh I love these updates and feel like I have a paragraph of response to write!! I made my first batch of crock pot chili for the season this week too, and it was amazing! Definitely great to have on-hand all week for lunches at work and breakfast when I wake up starving (odd, I know!). I eat (most of the time) on the 4HourBody (read this book...it is amazing) slow carb "diet" and chili is a big part of that, so during the winter I make a batch a week and love to test out new versions!
ReplyDeleteAs for Lululemon, I was corrupted last year and haven't gone back. The only pants I enjoy running in as much (or almost as much) are some nike running capris that also don't move around, but Lululemon has everyone else beat. I'm not a fan of most of their tanks (I prefer nike pro fitted tees) but their jackets, pants, and loungewear...ugh I could talk about them all day!
Good luck on your long run this weekend!! You should just run with the Chi marathon runners for a portion of the course—my college roomie will be one of them!
Yay - I love your long responses to these! :) Omg yes, crockpot chili is so good, isn't it? I need to make a bigger batch so I can have lunches for the week - we usually polish off everything we made the same night, haha :) Thanks for the tip on 4 Hour Body, I actually just checked it out for free on my library's virtual site! Can't wait to start it!
DeleteAhh I'm so glad you're on the Lulu train too - I'm addicted and totally agree that their running pants are amazing. The tanks are a hit or miss for me, I think some of them are too "trendy" or different and aren't very functional for running (or even yoga), so I've only gotten a few of the pretty simple ones so far; I also wear Nike tanks, and I have a bunch of old random ones, so I'm trying not to buy a lot more tops until I wear those out!
Thanks, and that would have been awesome to run with the Chi runners today, but sadly (happily), I slept in a ton and wasn't out and about during their crazy early run times! :) I did watch some on tv though and was grateful I wasn't there, hahaha.
LOVE THIS POST! I have definitely been wanting to make some chili or soup in the crockpot then I have something delicious and not that caloric for lunch all week! Love these running pants too!

Thanks Rachel! :) Totally agree about chili for lunch during the week - it's so easy to make and tote to work, I really need to make a huge batch!
