Fitness Friday

Oh holiday weekends...  Last weekend over Labor Day (oh, and ps - happy belated Labor Day!  Did you have a nice weekend???) I was out of town visiting some family in Kansas City, and let's just say that the amount of cheese and meat devoured in that 72 hour time span is simply breathtaking (meaning, it will likely kill me very shortly).

The good...
and the bad (but oh so good).

We drank a lot of Boulevard Wheat local beer, ate fried pickles at the KC Irish Fest, and otherwise fell off the wagon in all respects.  I did eat a salad once, but that was about it.  We got back into town late on Monday feeling sluggish and so overfed from the weekend.  As a result, I was fired up and ready to get back on track on Tuesday, and I went out for one of the best runs I've had lately with a brand new playlist of some newly downloaded tunes.  I was really happy with my run and felt awesome, until I woke up on Wednesday with a pounding headache that lasted all day, and I've been sick ever since.  C'est la vie, non?  Seems like it always happens that there's a mini setback whenever you're ready to get back on track, but I'm still motivated and am hoping to get a run in this weekend even if I'm still a little under the weather.

Since there wasn't much working out going on around here, I don't have much to show you by way of photos or cool updates.  In the meantime, I've been rounding up a few things from my Pinterest food and fitness boards that I'm planning to try out over the next few weeks to keep at least my mental momentum going.  I also want to thank you guys all again for your awesome suggestions in the comments over the last few Fitness Fridays - I really love hearing your feedback and tips, and I am definitely going to incorporate some of those into my routine!  I've already started using my crockpot for dinners during the week, which is freeing up tons of time!  Now just to make sure I use that time for working out...

I'll be totally honest though - I've been finding it really difficult to actually stick to my plans despite all my good intentions, most likely due to the end of summer festivities and beginning of fall festivities (all of which involve far too much food and beer and not enough sobriety time to work out).  After today's weigh in... I am sad to report that I have lost no pounds.  Not surprising, given that I've worked out a handful of times and despite eating healthy during the week, I have a knack for undoing that with the weekend goodies.  As of today, it's 5 weeks until my birthday, and I'm not sure I'll be making my original goal of 20 pounds.  Instead of beating myself up and feeling like shit about it, I'm going to revise my goal and say that I'd love to lose 10 pounds by my birthday, which is still reasonable at this point.  The last 10 after that would really be vanity pounds more than anything, so I guess I can't be too hasty with how quickly I expect/hope to lose them, so maybe it's better to focus on good habits rather than timed goals.  At least bathing suit season is over, right?

What's going on in your fitness life this week?  Did you find it hard to eat healthy and/or work out over the holiday weekend?  What's your trick to staying on track during holidays, summer, and otherwise indulgent times?

And don't forget - the first Fitness Friday linkup will be in two weeks on September 21!  I can't wait to see/read what you've been up to, and I'm hoping your routines, tricks, and tips will motivate me to stay on track!

  1. Hope you had fun in my city!! :) I was at Irish Fest too, LOVE it! Some great people watching for sure.

Boulevard is prob one of my all time favorite beers...love that it's local! I do like Goose Island as well though...mmmm 310 might be in my future this evening.

As you know it was INSANELY humid and miserable here last weekend and this week! I thought I would do my Jillian workouts instead of jogging and I did...only 2 times :/ Oh well, better than none at all right??

I think it is fine to alter your goals to make them still challenging but realistic as well. Good luck, you can do it!!

    1. I totally did have a great time, Kansas City is so fun, and I love getting to drink Boulevard every time we go! :) We do drink a lot of Goose Island here in Chi too! 2 times of Jillian is definitely better than nothing, and it really was so freaking hot and humid out there last week - I meant to go for a run while I was there but just couldn't bring myself to do it! And thanks so much for the support Tracy!! :)

  3. Don't think of it as not losing any weight, think of it as you didn't gain any AND you got to enjoy all the fun things :)

I only worked out once this week, but I've been doing pretty good about eating (back to calorie tracking - blah).

I do love overnight oats though - I should go make some now for tomorrow morning :D

    1. Best mind-shift ever, I'm totally on board - yay for me that I at least didn't gain! :) Ugh yeah, I need to get back to calorie tracking too! I keep going back and forth with whether I should, but I really think I need to. What do you use to do it (do you use an app, or just a notebook or something)? And yay for overnight oats!!! What do you put in yours, I always need new ideas!
