Fitness Friday - Link Up!

As you know, I was in New York last week/end, so I actually did a ton of walking and a few runs even though the food was not spectacularly nutritious.  As Franishh pointed out though, this can really be considered a success - I was able to eat and drink basically whatever I wanted for 5+ days in New York and I didn't gain any weight at all!  (PS - Happy birthday Fran!!!)

The food was amazing - definitely got in some pizza (by the slice), more than a few cupcakes, and some ridiculously good mac & cheese at Cafeteria.  I've tried to be pretty good this week and have managed to eat mostly healthy even though we still have next to no groceries at home.  I've been using up the remainder of what we did have, so there have been some interesting and random meals, like a meatloaf tortilla wrap with an apple and cheese for lunch... Whatever works, right?

Left column: NYC goodies!  Mac & cheese at Cafeteria, cupcakes from Baked by Melissa, Black & White Cookie (one of my favorite things in NY!)
Right column: biscuits and gravy (and not pictured - many, many mimosas) at Essex, a slice at Two Boots, and finally, back to the grind - a green monster spinach smoothie and toast for breakfast this week

The runs in NYC were fantastic too - so much to see!  We did a 4 mile run along the Hudson River near the West Village, and then we also fit in a 7.5 mile run basically through the entire city.  We ran from Soho up 5th Avenue (with a few minor detours) to Central Park, so we were able to run by Washington Park, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, Radio City Music Hall, Old St. Pat's Cathedral, the Museum of Modern Art, and more.  Running is a great way to see the city, and it was a good exercise in slowing down, literally - there was no way we could run more than a few minutes at a time without stopping for a streetlight, pedestrians, or to take pictures.  It turned out to be kind of fun!  I tried to keep the momentum going after getting back home, and I did fit in one run so far this week, and I'm planning on 2 more this weekend.

left column: Hudson River run, Manhattan GPS
right column: oh the places you'll go in 7.5 miles through NYC!, welcomed back home with fall weather

Fitness through the week:
Sunday - 7.5 miles
Monday - Rest
Tuesday - 4.25 miles
Wednesday - Rest
Thursday -Unintentional rest (dang happy hours!)
Friday - 4.25 miles planned
Saturday - Strength workout of some kind
Sunday - 8 miles planned

And finally, today is a Fitness Friday linkup!  Submit your links to what your fitness, food, and otherwise healthy habits have been like today, this week, this month, whatever!  I can't wait to see what you've been up to!  This is my first try with this stuff, so bear with me if things are screwy for a bit!

  1. THANK YOU! That was so sweet of you :)

that food looks amazing. I love the idea of going on runs in new cities - you can get a little lost and see a bunch of new sites and it would make the runs so much more fun. it gets so boring seeing the same trees/roads on every run.

The week got away from me this week with chris coming home and my birthday, but I will try to participate in the next link up! We're running a 10K next Saturday that I have yet to train for so that should be interesting....

    1. No problem! :) How was your birthday weekend??? Looked like the apple picking was fun (instagram stalking...)!

Haha, no worries! Ugh I feel your pain on not training for stuff - I did an 8 mile training run this weekend for a half in a few weeks and I am so sore today because we have not been keeping up with the training. So lazy this year!

  2. I LOVE the idea of your running tour of the city!! Looks like you had a great time for sure.

I say if you don't gain any weight on vacation then that's a feat in itself...that's always my goal. So great job! :)

    1. OH, and I didn't jog at all this week! :( I have random flair ups with my sciatic nerve and it was KILLING me the last two weeks. Wednesday it started feeling better but I didn't want to risk it. I'll start again today!

    2. Oh no, that sucks! I hope your back is feeling better soon! Definitely take it easy, it sounds like rest is the best thing for nerve pain like that!
