Lawn Party

That's what this skirt is called, anyway.  I found this lovely in the sale section at Anthropologie's extra 25% off sale last weekend (still available and on sale!) and couldn't resist the bright yellow even though I haven't been the biggest neons fan this year.  I got many, many compliments on this skirt (and also one kind of mean comparison to a file folder...), and I definitely think it was worth the sale price.

I'm Wearing
Anthropologie Lawn Party Skirt - $30 (in-store price) (exact)
Talbots decorative shoulder t-shirt - $15, old
Mia Honney Sandals (via Piperlime) - $27, no longer available (similar)
Michael Kors gold boyfriend watch - gift
Chevron friendship bracelet DIY here!
Banana Republic brown braided leather bracelet - $10, old (similar)
Thrifted brown woven bangle - $2
Piperlime tan large bangle - really old (similar)

So I love the skirt, but something feels not quite right about this outfit.  The t-shirt?  I love these espadrilles, but maybe a daintier shoe was in order?  I can't put my finger on what it is, but it's something.  Don't you hate it when you think you look fine all day, then you come home and take pictures and realize something is off?  Maybe I should start taking pictures in the morning, although that would surely lead to me changing several times and then being late for work every day.  Do you try on outfits before you wear them to make sure they look right, or do you just take the plunge and live and learn?

  1. I absolutely love that skirt! There's nothing at all wrong with it's bright file folder yellow color. =) I think it looks fine with the wedges, but I bet you're right that a daintier shoe would give it a different feel.
I'm like you. I just live and learn when it comes to my outfits. l don't have the time to try them on and give them a test run! lol

  4. Love the skirt and shirt. I thought right away that maybe you needed a belt to accentuate your waist. The shoes are cute with the outfit!

Visiting from Pleated Poppy. Love the skirt...had it in my hands at my Anthropolgie and then talked myself out of it. Now I wish I got it. My Anthro had the skirt on display with a white top and a belt. I think a belt made the outfit. Might be worth a try!

  6. Thanks so much Tiffany! I totally agree - it takes way too much time to test run outfits, it's hard enough planning them a night in advance! :)

  8. I think you're right Lisa, a belt looks like what I'm missing here! I'm definitely making a note of that for the next outfit I put together with this skirt! :)

  9. Ahh, I do that all the time - I hate when I regret passing on something! Agreed, I think a belt would have done the trick here - something tan or cognac colored, maybe? Definitely trying that next time, thanks! :)

  10. That feeling you described is why I sometimes wish I took outfit pictures in the morning, but then I'd never get to work on time! :) I love this skirt! I can't remember if I've ever seen you wear chambray, but I think a chambray top would be really cute paired with it.

  11. yes. I took pictures this morning and even though I loved my outfit IRL, in pictures it looks like I'm a mechanic. so no pictures today (but trust, I looked cute). I like the way you wore the bright skirt - neutrals to keep it not crazy! And your engagement/wedding band (right?) is beautiful - I can only hope for such a beautiful ring some day.

  14. I am a sucker for anything yellow, and this skirt is no exception! I love it and I love the way you styled it too. Perhaps maybe a pump would have streamlined the look a bit more? Or a belt?

  16. Haha, so true - "trust, I looked cute" is my inner monologue most days. And thank you so much, my ring is my most favorite accessory of all :) And re: the comments - hmmm, that was happening to me too! Are you using Disqus? Mine started classifying almost all of my comments as spam, so I had to go into the spam folder and whitelist people/approve comments - maybe that's the issue? Let me know if that works - I'm a tech idiot, so I usually have no idea what's going on with these things!

  18. Thanks so much Di! :) Good call on the belt, I think that's a great option for adding something extra to this outfit. I'm thinking I'll try it with a classic pump and a belt next time for sure! Thanks!
