Easy Like Sunday Morning

I know, I've used that line before, but I actually wore this outfit yesterday morning when it was both Sunday morning and easy.  For a day of running errands and lunch with my family via a long commute on the joy that is the CTA, I went with the easiest, most Sunday-ey outfit I could think of, which worked out perfectly.  Thanks for the advice, Lionel Richie.

I'm Wearing
Old Navy blue maxi dress - a million years old (a few cute ones here and here)
Gap Outlet white cami - a million years old
Banana Republic Factory coral necklace - $13 (similarsimilarsimilar)
Delia's tan gladiator sandals - a million years old (similarcute beaded sandals)

In other, extremely unrelated news (as in, it is nothing like easy and does not involve leisurely walking around the mall and eating chocolate cake while wearing a loose-fitting maxi dress, which is the honest truth of what I did yesterday), today marks the first day of half marathon training for the race I signed up for this fall (this awesome one - now taking suggestions for a great costume!).  I've also been thinking about that lingering goal on my 30 before 30 list, which is to lose the last 20 pounds I want to shed.

Let me tell you the short version of a very long story: Once upon a time, I lost 70 pounds.  I was pretty happy with that even though I still had about 10 more pounds I wanted to lose.  During that time, I also became a runner.  I ran the Chicago Marathon last year and gained a few pounds during training (normal) and then kept eating like a horse after and not sticking to a running schedule (not normal), so I gained another 5 or so pounds.  Therefore, I now have about 20 pounds to be where I really want to be.  Then I added that goal to a list of things I wanted to accomplish before I turned 30.  I turn 30 on October 12.  That is approximately 11 weeks from today.  Moral of the story: must.get.my.ass.moving.

So I'm back on track this week after many wonderful months of dunking Oreos (reduced-fat at least!) in coffee and baking cookies because it's fun to eat them.  Would you guys be interested in reading some updates about fitness/nutrition each week?  I was thinking of coupling a casual Friday outfit with a few updates on food and fitness each Friday - let me know what you think!

And as usual, I'm linking up with Molly for YOLO Mondays!

  12. You've ran an entire marathon?! holy cow, how. because I'm training for my first half (its in 3 weeks....eek!) and I'm at the 8 mile mark and 1. I'm bored and 2. it hurts. Of course I haven't lost a single pound but at least I can feel better about eating a ton of fake girl scout cookies. I'd love to hear more about the fitness stuff!

  20. Thank you so much GlamKitten! You can totally pull this off - I think a maxi is one of the easiest things to wear (and it's definitely comfy)! I know you're petite, but check out Nicole Richie or the Olsen twins - they wear maxis all the time! :)

  21. Thank you so much Erin! Haha, I love the encouragement, it totally is helpful! :) Yay, I'll definitely be making Fridays a fitness day on the blog then!

  22. Omg yay for your first half, that's so exciting!!! I think the half is my favorite distance - hard enough to make training necessary, but not so life-consuming like the marathon. Yeah, I still can't believe I did the marathon either, it was insane. Hahaha about being bored - I had the same problem, so I started listening to books on tape (actually bar study materials, but same idea) and running with other people so I could talk during long runs instead of getting bored with my same music all the time. The hurting part... that doesn't really go away for me, BUT the big benefit of having done a longer distance like a half is that when you're done, every shorter run feels managable because you know you've done worse! And yes - I totally feel justified in eating more cookies when I run too, it's a tough problem to overcome :) Yay, I'm so glad you're interested in reading more about this topic too - I'll definitely be making Fridays a fitness day!

  24. Hey, you look adorable. I had no idea you had gone through such a major transformation so congrats on that - you are a much stronger woman than I as the mere thought of signing up for even a half-marathon gives me hives. But if you document your progress it might just be enough motivation to get me to do something similar. I'm always curious about nutrition too so I'd love to see some posts on both. Look forward to it :)
